Court Dismisses Shaibu’s Plea to Nullify Ighodalo’s Candidacy

The Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a suit filed by the impeached Deputy Governor of Edo, Phillip Shaibu, seeking to nullify the results of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary held on February 22, which declared Asue Ighodalo as its candidate.

Justice James Omotosho ruled that Shaibu lacked the legal standing to challenge the primary’s outcome, as he did not fully participate in the process and was not present at the venue on the day it was held.

The court also noted that Shaibu’s lawsuit was premature, citing his failure to utilize the PDP’s internal dispute resolution mechanisms before approaching the court. As a PDP member, Shaibu was required to first address his grievances through the party’s appeals committee.

Furthermore, Justice Omotosho stated there was ample evidence confirming Ighodalo’s legitimate victory in the primary.
