“I Need to Rest on Doctor’s Advice” — Peter Obi Announces Break from Engagements
Former Anambra State governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has announced that he will be taking a short break from his official and public engagements to attend to his health.
In a statement released on Saturday, Obi explained that the decision followed medical advice after he began to feel unwell during his activities in Enugu.
“Earlier in Enugu, I was not feeling well. I visited the hospital where the doctor gave me some medication and advised me to take a day or two days’ rest,” he said.
The former governor noted that, as a result, he would be unable to attend several scheduled activities both within and outside Nigeria this weekend. He apologised for any inconveniences caused and appealed for understanding from his supporters and the public.
Before announcing the health-related break, Obi shared highlights of his recent engagements. On Friday, he visited Good Hope Specialist Hospital in Isulo, Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State — a facility being acquired by the Aguata Diocese of the Church of Nigeria. He contributed ₦10 million towards the Diocese’s plan to revitalise the hospital and transform it into a comprehensive health complex with a School of Nursing, Midwifery, and Health Technology.
“Healthcare remains one of the most meaningful investments we can make. Faith-based organisations have shown, time and again, that with the right support, they can deliver excellence,” Obi stated.
Later, he travelled to Owerri, where he attended a dinner hosted by Barrister Nnaemeka Maduagwu in honour of former Kaduna State governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai.
Despite his active schedule, Obi maintained that his health must come first, adding that he would adhere strictly to medical guidance.
