“I Know the Junction Where the Mad Man Who Advised Peter Obi Stayed in Anambra,” Says Bwala
Daniel Bwala, special adviser to President Bola Tinubu on policy communication, has criticised Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, describing his politics as theatrical and disconnected from reality.
Bwala made the remarks during an interview on *The Clarity Zone Podcast*, hosted by media personality Chinedu Emmanuel, popularly known as Nedu. He was reacting to an earlier comment in which Obi reportedly described him as a “character.”
Using a film analogy, Bwala said Obi was better described by the term, arguing that his political style relied heavily on performance rather than substance.
“In a movie, the actor is a character. He is actually the character-in-chief, because what he’s playing is theatrics,” Bwala said. “It is a fictitious picture of a reality that will never exist.”
According to him, Obi sold unrealistic expectations to his supporters, which later collapsed after the outcome of the 2023 presidential election. He added that many of Obi’s supporters struggled to accept the result and turned to public attacks as a result.
Bwala also spoke on leadership, saying it required sustained sacrifice and years of political organisation. He noted that building a strong political base was a demanding process undertaken by seasoned politicians, including President Bola Tinubu.
Addressing Obi’s claim that he had never visited Anambra State, Bwala said he was well acquainted with the area and could describe routes leading to Obi’s residence in Agulu.
He further referred to a story Obi shared during the 2023 campaign about receiving advice from a mentally unstable man while serving as governor of Anambra. Bwala said he knew the location where the man stayed.
“I even know the junction where the mad man that used to advise him stayed, very close to Upper Iweka,” he said, listing parts of Nnewi to support his familiarity with the state.
Bwala questioned Obi’s assertion that he had never been to Anambra, insisting that his knowledge of the state contradicted the claim.
