“I Couldn’t Have Tolerated Peter Obi’s Annoying Voice for 8 Years as President” – Singer Wani Draws Backlash
Fast-rising Nigerian singer Wani has stirred controversy online after stating that he was relieved Peter Obi did not win the 2023 presidential election, claiming he couldn’t have tolerated the former Labour Party candidate’s “annoying” voice for eight years in office.
Posting on his X (formerly Twitter) account, Wani wrote, “I don’t think I could have tolerated P*ter *bi’s voice for 8 years man! He’s on point tho… on paper.”
The statement triggered a wave of backlash, with critics accusing the singer of reducing serious political discourse to a personal and superficial opinion.
A user warned, “Worst mistake to make as an artist is to air out political views,” to which Wani replied, “What political view? I just don’t like the way the ngga talks, na crime?”
Another questioned the relevance of the remark, asking, “What does his voice have to do with anything?” Wani doubled down: “It is annoying in my opinion. How it became a political debate, you have to ask these fools.”
Supporters of Obi condemned the singer, with some threatening to boycott his music. “You are cancelled. No streams for you, no tour for you, no music career for you. Not under my regime,” one user wrote. Another lashed out, saying, “Better continue making toilet seat music for the brief amusement of your friends & family.”
Despite the criticism, Wani has remained defiant, insisting his comment was merely a personal take and not a political attack.
