“I can actually govern Nigeria from Kaduna, without a single problem” — Peter Obi
Peter Obi, a prominent Nigerian politician, has stated that governing the country from Kaduna would be feasible if elected president, citing the state’s proximity to the federal capital and its strategic significance.
Speaking on Sunday during a meeting with African Democratic Congress (ADC) stakeholders in Kaduna, Obi said physical location would not limit effective governance.
“Abuja to Kaduna is less than two hours; so nothing stops a president who’s in Abuja to drive down to Kaduna for a meeting and stay there for a day or two and go back to Abuja. In fact, I can actually serve Nigeria from Kaduna, without a single problem,” he said.
Obi, who previously contested the 2023 presidential election under the Labour Party before aligning with an ADC coalition in 2025, used the visit to engage party members and political stakeholders in the state.
Among those he met were Dr Ahmed Tijjani, a gubernatorial hopeful, and Senator Lawal Adamu, who represents Kaduna Central. He said the discussions formed part of broader consultations across the country.
In remarks shared after the meeting, Obi said his engagement in Kaduna reflected his ongoing effort to assess political conditions and strengthen connections with local actors.
He described the interactions as constructive, noting what he called a visible commitment among stakeholders to public service and governance.
Obi also highlighted Kaduna’s historical and economic relevance, describing it as a former hub for industry, agriculture, and commerce with continued potential for development.
“Kaduna remains a very strategic state in Nigeria… With disciplined, competent, and people-oriented leadership, we can restore that lost glory for the benefit of all,” he said.
He further emphasized the need for national unity, warning that divisions within society could hinder progress.
“A divided society cannot progress, but a united, just, and inclusive one will always find a path to peace and development,” he added.
As part of his broader consultations, Obi also visited former Kano State governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso in Kano, where he met members of the Kwankwasiyya political movement.
