“I Came to Confess My Sins”: Suspected Employment Scammer Turns Himself In to EFCC
Idris Adamu, a suspected employment fraudster, voluntarily turned himself in to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at its Gombe Zonal Command on Monday.
According to a statement released by EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale in Abuja, the middle-aged man arrived at the commission’s office around 1:00 p.m. and requested to speak with the Acting Zonal Director, Deputy Commander of the EFCC, Sa’ad Hanafi Sa’ad.
Adamu reportedly told the EFCC that he came to confess his past crimes and expressed a desire to “repent” out of fear of the commission. During the meeting with the zonal director, he admitted to defrauding various individuals of a total of N9 million under the false promise of securing employment for them in federal government agencies.
“I have changed, but I am afraid of the EFCC,” he was quoted as saying.
After hearing the confession, the Acting Zonal Director thanked Adamu for coming forward and directed that he be transferred to the investigation department for further inquiry.
