Hunger Protests: Police Arrest Maiduguri Residents for Displaying Russian Flags
Police in Borno State have confirmed the arrest of nine individuals during #EndHunger protests for allegedly displaying Russian flags in Maiduguri.
Police Commissioner Yusuf Lawal provided the update on Tuesday, stating that the arrests occurred on Monday in the Zannari Tamsu area of Gwange Ward. Those detained include residents Khalafi Abdulhamid, Mohammed Abubakar, Mohamed Ibrahim, and Abba Hassan.
Commissioner Lawal also noted that five additional protesters were apprehended in the Bulumkutu area of Maiduguri, identified as Bashir Ahmad, Musa Lawan, Abba Mallam, Habibu Auwal, and Inusa Abdullahi. These individuals were reportedly carrying Russian flags and have been transferred to the Crack Squad for thorough investigation and prosecution.
“The situation has remained calm, and the police will continue to monitor and patrol the area to ensure public safety,” Commissioner Lawal assured.
