“We’ve Arrested Sponsors of Tailors Sewing Russian Flags in Kano,” Says DSS
The Department of State Services (DSS) announced that it has arrested several individuals involved in sewing Russian flags for the #EndBadGovernance protests in Kano.
In a statement released on Monday, the DSS disclosed that it had not only detained the tailors responsible for making the Russian flags but also apprehended their sponsors. The investigation is currently ongoing.
The DSS also addressed rumors regarding Adaramoye Michael, the national coordinator of the Youth Rights Campaign (YRC), stating that he is not in their custody. “The DSS can confirm that Adaramoye Michael (aka Michael Lenin) is not in its custody. Meanwhile, the Service has apprehended some tailors in Kano State responsible for making Russian flags being distributed in the area,” the statement read. “Some of their sponsors have also been picked.”
The #EndBadGovernance protests, which began on Thursday, have seen participation across many parts of Nigeria. Protesters in Kano were spotted waving Russian flags, calling on Russian President Vladimir Putin to intervene in Nigeria’s governance issues.
Further sightings of protesters with Russian and Japanese flags were reported in Jos, the Plateau capital, and in Abuja near the Nyanya bridge.
The emergence of foreign flags during these protests has raised concerns about potential foreign influence on the demonstrators in northern Nigeria.
