Hundreds Defect from PDP, APC, NNPP to ADC in Katsina
Hundreds of supporters from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), All Progressives Congress (APC), and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) officially defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Sunday in Katsina State.
The defection was led by Mustapha Inuwa, who heads the coalition group in the state. Membership cards were distributed to the new members, who included men and women from all 34 Local Government Areas of Katsina State.
The announcement was made during the official launch of the ADC’s Katsina State chapter at the Continental Event Center in Katsina. Speaking at the event, Lawal Batagarawa, the state representative of the National Political Coalition Group, expressed concern over the worsening insecurity, rising poverty, inflation, and the declining value of the naira.
Batagarawa said several industries had collapsed since the beginning of President Bola Tinubu’s administration in 2023. He called for unity among citizens, party members, and supporters, expressing confidence that the ADC could lead efforts to address terrorism, banditry, poverty, and illiteracy across the country.
Usman Musa Wamba, Chairman of the ADC in Katsina State, voiced optimism about the party’s prospects in the 2027 general elections. He urged greater support from the electorate, particularly the youth, to enable them to benefit from the dividends of democracy.
One of the high-profile defectors, Aliyu Saulawa, a former APC member and former Director of Media for the Buhari Campaign Organisation as well as National Coordinator of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Movement, criticized the APC for failing to deliver on its campaign promises, especially to the northern region.
He stated that the party had not fulfilled even one percent of its commitments. “Without security, there is no livelihood,” he said. “Here in the Northwest, we are mostly peasant farmers and traders. Without security, we have nothing — not even an educational system, which has also collapsed. Honestly, I cannot continue to remain in the APC.”
