How We Killed FUTA Minna Lecturer Adefolalu, 14-year-old Afekafe Confesses
A 14-year-old girl named Joy Afekafe has confessed to her involvement in the brutal murder of Dr. Funmilola Adefolalu, a lecturer from the Department of Biochemistry at the Federal University of Technology, Minna. The incident unfolded in Minna, Niger State, where the lifeless body of Dr. Adefolalu was discovered in her apartment, drenched in her own blood, on Saturday, October 28.
Joy Afekafe, along with her two accomplices, Walex and Smart, was paraded as a suspect responsible for the heinous murder at the Bosso Police Station in Minna on Tuesday. Afekafe’s chilling confession revealed the gruesome details of the crime.
The motive behind the murder stemmed from a prior living arrangement between Afekafe and the lecturer. Afekafe had lived with Dr. Adefolalu for approximately two weeks under the guise that the lecturer would sponsor her education. However, things took a dark turn, leading to Dr. Adefolalu’s decision to send Afekafe away due to her unacceptable behavior.
Filled with resentment, Afekafe, along with her schoolmates, Walex and Smart, decided to confront and physically harm the lecturer for expelling her. In their twisted logic, they believed that Dr. Adefolalu would identify and report them to the authorities after the confrontation. Fearing the consequences, they decided to end her life.
According to Afekafe, the horrifying sequence of events began with a brutal assault using a stool, followed by multiple stabbings with knives. Dr. Adefolalu’s pleas for mercy echoed through her residence as they mercilessly attacked her, leaving her in a pool of her own blood. To cover their tracks, the culprits also made off with her phone, laptop, and car battery, fleeing the scene on a motorcycle.
Niger Police Command spokesperson, Abiodun Wasiu, has confirmed ongoing efforts to apprehend Afekafe’s accomplices, Walex and Smart. The investigation has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further examination and prosecution.
Dr. Adefolalu’s tragic death sent shockwaves through the community, as she was not only a respected lecturer but also a pastor at Voice of Mercy Ministry. The church has called upon law enforcement agencies to ensure a swift and thorough investigation into the murder, seeking justice for their beloved pastor. Pastor Bolaji Olanipekun, Head of Media and Communications for the church, emphasized the need for the perpetrators to face the full weight of the law.
The community remains in mourning, seeking solace and justice in the wake of this horrifying and senseless act.
