How Nigerian Footballer Sodiq Adebisi Died During Training in Ogun State
34-year-old football player Sodiq Adebisi tragically passed away after collapsing during a routine training session at the Dipo Dina International Stadium in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.
The unfortunate incident occurred on Saturday, while Adebisi was actively participating in the training alongside his fellow football players. Witnesses reported that the player suddenly collapsed, prompting swift action from his teammates who rushed him to a local state hospital in Ijebu-Ode.
Despite the immediate medical attention provided by the hospital professionals, Sodiq Adebisi was pronounced dead on the same day he was admitted.
Confirming the incident, Omolola Odutola, the State Police Public Relations Officer, disclosed that the deceased’s brother, Ganiyu Adebisi, approached the Igbeba Police Division seeking the release of the body for burial. According to Odutola, the family expressed their desire for a prompt burial in accordance with Islamic rites and requested no further investigation into the matter.
This tragic event echoes a similar occurrence in March 2020 when 23-year-old Chineme, a promising talent in the Nigerian Premier Football League, collapsed and lost his life while playing for Nasarawa United in a match against Katsina United. Despite immediate medical attention, Chineme was pronounced dead at the Dalhatu-Araf Specialist Hospital.
The football community mourns the loss of Sodiq Adebisi, and our thoughts are with his family during this difficult time.
