Hisbah Destroys 170 Bottles of Alcohol in Yobe
The Yobe State Hisbah Board has destroyed over 170 bottles of alcohol, estimated to be worth N450,000, following a crackdown in Gashua town, the headquarters of Bade Local Government Area.
The bottles were seized during a Hisbah patrol at a prominent hotel in Gashua. Bade Local Government Chairman, Ibrahim Babagana Yurema, who supervised the destruction, reaffirmed the council’s commitment to eradicating the sale and consumption of alcohol in the area. He expressed concern over the increasing use of intoxicants among youths, emphasizing that such practices are prohibited in Islam.
According to Yurema, the council is determined to rid the community of activities that compromise moral values and distort mental capabilities. The operation, he said, aligns with efforts to promote discipline and curb immoral behaviors.
The Yobe North Zonal Commandant of the Hisbah Board, Malam Isah Ibrahim, revealed that the Sharia Court had convicted the individual responsible for selling the alcohol and sentenced him to prison. The court also authorized the destruction of the confiscated whisky, further cementing Hisbah’s stance against the consumption and distribution of intoxicants in the state.
