Heavy Security as PDP NWC Meets Following Anyanwu’s Removal

 

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) convened a closed-door meeting at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, under heavy security presence. The meeting, chaired by PDP National Chairman Umar Damagum, follows a recent Supreme Court decision dismissing a motion to halt the enforcement of a High Court ruling that removed Senator Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary and named Sunday Udeh-Okoye as his replacement.

 

The buildup to the meeting was marked by heightened tension at the party headquarters, with a significant deployment of security operatives from the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police, and the Civil Defence Corps. Earlier in the day, a clash erupted between party staff and supporters of Anyanwu, some of whom were described by eyewitnesses as thugs.

 

A PDP staff member who witnessed the confrontation said the scuffle began when pro-Anyanwu supporters attempted to prevent some NWC members from accessing the premises for the scheduled meeting. The situation was swiftly contained by party staff, private security personnel, and police officers stationed at the secretariat. In response to the incident, more security operatives were deployed to the area to maintain order and prevent further disruption.
