JUST IN: Tinubu Meets Obasa, Meranda, Lagos Assembly Members at Presidential Villa
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday received members of the Lagos State House of Assembly at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, amid ongoing tension surrounding the House’s recent leadership crisis.
The lawmakers, who arrived in two coaster buses, were ushered into the President’s office area around 2pm to await the closed-door meeting. Among those present were both the reinstated Speaker of the Assembly, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, and his former replacement, Hon. Mojisola Meranda.
While Meranda arrived with the main delegation shortly after 2pm, Obasa came separately about 50 minutes later. The unusual presence of both figures, who have been at the centre of the Assembly’s leadership tussle, further highlighted the significance of the meeting.
The visit is believed to be connected to the internal crisis that recently rocked the Lagos Assembly. Obasa was removed as Speaker in a controversial vote but was later reinstated following interventions by key political stakeholders, including the powerful Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC).
Despite his return, sources say tensions remain high within the House, as lingering resentment continues to affect the Assembly’s cohesion.
