Heavy Gun Duel on Kaduna-Abuja Expressway: Police Confirm Clash with Bandits
In a statement released on January 10, 2024, the Kaduna Police Command confirmed a fierce gun duel between security operatives and armed bandits on the Kaduna-Abuja expressway. The incident occurred on January 6, around 23:30 hours, near the Dogon Fili area.
Contrary to reports suggesting mass abductions, the Police clarified that no commuters were kidnapped during the confrontation. However, six individuals sustained varying degrees of bullet injuries as they were caught in the crossfire.
The armed bandits, in large numbers, attempted to cross the expressway towards the Jere axis. Well-alerted security agents swiftly engaged them, leading to a fierce shootout. The security forces successfully dislodged the criminals, forcing many to escape with gunshot wounds.
ASP Mansir Hassan, the spokesperson for the Kaduna Command, emphasized the isolated nature of the incident, highlighting the long-standing fortification of the Kaduna-Abuja expressway for commuter safety. He urged the public in the affected area to be vigilant and report any individuals displaying suspected bullet injuries to the nearest Police station or security outfit.
Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ali Dabigi, emphasized the importance of journalists verifying information with concerned security agencies before publication to ensure accurate and responsible reporting. The Police Command urged the general public to dismiss any fear-inducing or misleading narratives surrounding the incident.
