CEOs of FCCPC, BPE Relieved of Their Duties Not Sacked – Presidency

The presidency has addressed the departure of Alexander Okoh, Director-General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE), and Babatunde Irukera, Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC). Contrary to initial reports of dismissal, a statement by Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, clarified that the two officials were relieved of their duties.

This clarification comes after Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Tinubu, issued a statement on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday. Onanuga emphasized that the directive from President Tinubu was not intended as a dismissal but rather as a move to scout for suitable successors.

“I have followed the concerns in the media on the report that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu dismissed Babatunde Irukera EVC/CEO, Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) and Alexander Ayoola Okoh — Director-General/CEO, Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE),” Onanuga stated. “The President’s directive did not intend a dismissal. The two men who have served our country were relieved of their duties by the President, as he scouts for their successors.”

Acknowledging the contributions of Okoh and Irukera, Onanuga noted that President Tinubu expressed gratitude for their services and wished them well in their future endeavors. The presidency aims to ensure a smooth transition as new leadership is sought for these crucial roles.
