“Hateful Comments Have No Place in Our Society” – Peter Obi Condemns Canadian-Based Nigerian for Threatening to Poison Yorubas, Edo Communities
Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate from the 2023 election, has strongly denounced recent hate speech by Amaka Patience Sunnberger, a Nigerian residing in Canada. Sunnberger, featured in a viral TikTok video, was heard making threats and inciting violence against Nigerians from specific ethnic groups, including urging her audience to poison their food.
The inflammatory remarks have sparked significant backlash, leading to a call from the House of Representatives’ committee on diaspora matters for the Canadian government to take legal action against her.
In response, Obi took to his X page to address the issue. The former Anambra governor emphasized that such divisive and hateful rhetoric has no place in Nigerian society. He urged Nigerians to unite and focus on common challenges rather than succumbing to tribalism and bigotry.
Obi reiterated his stance against the polarization of the country and stressed the importance of collective effort in addressing national issues. He called for a focus on unity and integrity in leadership to build a prosperous and equitable Nigeria.
“We must reject tribalism and religious division,” Obi said. “Let us embrace our shared humanity and work together towards a new Nigeria that is possible.”
