Kelechi Ndukwe Becomes First Nigerian to Command a US Navy Warship
Nigerian-born Kelechi Ndukwe has been promoted to the rank of Captain in the United States Navy, becoming the first Nigerian to command a US Navy warship. The milestone was shared on social media by Victor Agunbiade, a US Army Officer, who expressed his pride in Ndukwe’s accomplishment.
“Ladies and Gentlemen, meet the newest US Navy Captain, Kelechi Ndukwe. The first Nigerian to command a US Navy warship! Congratulations on your promotion, Captain! Well deserved!!!” Agunbiade wrote on X.
The promotion ceremony was widely celebrated, with Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, also extending her congratulations. “A hearty congratulations to Navy Captain Kelechi R. Ndukwe, who has been promoted to the rank of Navy Captain from Commander in the US Navy,” Dabiri-Erewa posted on X.
