Gunmen Shoot Europe-Based Man Dead, Steal N50m Gold Necklace in Brutal Attack
Gunmen have reportedly shot dead a Europe-based man, identified only as Derrick, in Benin City over a gold necklace valued at N50 million.
The Edo State Police Command confirmed the incident on Tuesday, September 23, 2025. The Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Moses Yamu, stated that investigations are ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators.
According to reports, the attack occurred over the weekend on Igun Street. Derrick, who had just returned from Europe, was on the street to purchase motor spare parts when the armed assailants reportedly confronted him.
Eyewitnesses said the gunmen demanded Derrick’s necklace. When he resisted, one of the attackers allegedly shot him in the leg using a pump-action gun. The attackers then took the jewelry and fled the scene.
Despite being rushed to the hospital by sympathizers, Derrick was pronounced dead on arrival.
Authorities are appealing to anyone with information about the incident to come forward as the investigation continues.
