Gunmen on Motorcycles Assassinate PDP Ward Chairman in Imo State

In a shocking incident, Chiedoziem Anyanwu, the Ife/Akpodim/Chokoneze Ward chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Ezinihitte Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State, fell victim to a fatal attack. Unidentified gunmen on motorcycles targeted Anyanwu, fatally shooting him at his residence on Thursday.

Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants, upon reaching Anyanwu’s house, explicitly mentioned his name and demanded to see him. Upon confirming his identity, they ruthlessly shot him dead before swiftly escaping the scene, leaving an air of distress within the PDP community.

A source revealed, “The chairman of the PDP in Ife/Akpodim/Chokoneze ward in the Ezinihitte Mbaise Local Government Area has been killed. He was shot dead in his wife’s presence by gunmen who requested to see him. The development has brought an uneasy calm to the fold of the PDP in the state. The slain party chairman was vibrant. Nobody knew why he was killed.”

Lancelot Obiaku, the Director General of the New Media of the PDP in the state, confirmed the tragic incident and called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators. However, the Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye, stated that he had not been briefed on the killing. Okoye assured an inquiry into the matter but, as of the latest update, has not provided further information.
