Gunmen Kill 10 Security Operatives in Zamfara Ambush
At least ten local security operatives were killed in Zamfara State after an ambush by suspected bandits in Anka Local Government Area. The victims include six members of the Zamfara State Community Protection Guards (CPG), commonly referred to as Askarawa, and four local vigilantes known as Yan Sakai.
The operatives were reportedly returning from a successful joint operation led by the Nigerian Army, during which several bandits were killed and weapons recovered. However, on their way back through the Bagega axis, they were ambushed by armed men, leading to the deadly attack.
Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal confirmed the incident in a statement released on his verified Facebook page. He stated that the CPG and vigilante members were part of a joint operation alongside the military when they came under attack.
Governor Lawal also revealed that three people are still missing following the ambush—two CPG members and one local vigilante. He described the attack as a tragic loss and confirmed that the burial of the ten slain operatives was held on Sunday morning.
Zamfara has remained one of the hardest-hit states in the North-West and North-Central regions amid the ongoing banditry crisis.
