Gunmen Attack Isiala-Mbano LGA Headquarters, Kill Two Security Operatives
Tragedy struck in Isiala-Mbano Local Government Area (LGA) of Imo State on Tuesday evening as gunmen launched a violent attack on the LGA headquarters, killing two security operatives and setting the council building ablaze.
The incident occurred at approximately 8:30 PM when the assailants stormed the premises, opening fire indiscriminately. According to eyewitnesses, the attackers targeted and killed two security officers on duty before setting several sections of the council building and vehicles on fire.
Sources suggest that the attack may be linked to the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary elections, which were held across the 27 LGAs and 306 wards in the state on the same day. The gunmen may have believed the election exercise was taking place at the council headquarters.
“Two security personnel at Isiala-Mbano council headquarters have been shot dead. The hoodlums also set ablaze a large portion of the council building and several vehicles parked on the premises,” a source disclosed.
The attack has sparked widespread fear in Umuelemai, the LGA headquarters, as residents reportedly fled to neighboring villages to escape potential violence.
