Gunmen Attack Ebonyi Police Station: Five Suspected Assailants Killed

The Ishieke Police Division in the Ebonyi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State was attacked by unknown gunmen on Wednesday night. The attack, which began around 9:30 PM, saw the police engage in a fierce gun battle with the assailants, resulting in the deaths of five suspected gunmen.

Residents of the area were forced into hiding as the sound of heavy gunfire filled the air. According to eyewitness Tony Nwori, the gunmen arrived at the station in two cars and began shooting indiscriminately. The exchange of gunfire with the police lasted for over 30 minutes until reinforcements arrived.

Additional security operatives, including the Army, responded to the situation, attempting to apprehend the attackers. The gunmen reportedly continued to fire sporadically while moving towards Odomoke Ishieke Market along Nwiboko Obodo Road in the Ebonyi Council Area.

Efforts to get an official statement from the police were unsuccessful. The Police Public Relations Officer, Joshua Ukandu, was unreachable by phone, and no response has been received to the text message sent to him as of the time of filing this report.

A viral video circulating on social media shows some of the suspected assailants who were shot dead during the confrontation. The incident has heightened tensions in the area, with residents and authorities on high alert.
