Gunmen Abduct Wife, Daughter of APC Chairman

Gunmen have abducted the wife and daughter of Alhaji Muhammad Swasun, Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sakpefu community, Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The attack took place on Sunday night when the assailants invaded the community, shooting into the air to scare residents before taking their captives. The victims were identified as Hajiya Fatima, the party chairman’s wife, and his daughter Amina. Witnesses said the attackers operated for several minutes without interruption before whisking the two women to an unknown location.

The incident adds to the rising wave of insecurity across Kwara North, where repeated kidnappings have left communities in fear. Residents have continued to call on authorities to strengthen security and provide quicker responses during attacks.

Only a day earlier, gunmen struck in Shagbe community, Ifelodun Local Government Area, where they invaded the palace of the Onishagbe. According to locals, the assailants killed some residents, abducted others, and operated for hours without any intervention despite repeated distress calls to security agencies. While the attackers reportedly targeted the monarch and his household, their plans did not succeed.

Authorities are yet to confirm the number of casualties and abductees in the Shagbe incident. The Kwara State government has said it is addressing the situation, but concerns remain over the persistence of violent crimes in rural communities and the slow response of security forces.
