Bandits Kill Eight, Injure 18 and Abduct Villagers in Fresh Southern Kaduna Attack
Armed bandits launched a deadly assault on Wake village in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State in the early hours of Sunday, leaving eight people dead, 18 others injured, and several residents abducted.
The attackers, who stormed the community in Agunu Ward in large numbers, shot indiscriminately and forced villagers to flee before seizing captives whose whereabouts remain unknown. Survivors described the raid as swift and chaotic, with families scattered in the aftermath.
Local sources confirmed the death toll and injuries, noting that those hurt were taken to medical facilities in Kachia, while the critically wounded were transferred to hospitals in Kaduna. The violence adds to the grim toll of insecurity in Southern Kaduna, a region that has endured repeated attacks in recent years.
Community members expressed frustration, saying the assault contradicts recent government assurances of improved security. One resident lamented that the suffering of rural communities often goes unnoticed, accusing leaders of neglecting the crisis because of the political sensitivities surrounding banditry.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the Kaduna State Police Command nor the state government had issued an official response to the incident.
