Four Security Operatives Killed in Shootout Over Disputed Land in Imo
Four security operatives were killed in a shootout on a disputed piece of land in Mbaishii, Ngor Okpala Local Government Area of Imo State. The land has long been the subject of conflict among six Mbashisi communities, the Zion Ministry, and the state government.
Eyewitnesses said the violence erupted after an altercation among officers guarding the land spiraled out of control. Gunfire broke out during the clash, leaving four officers dead and others seriously injured. Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with operatives reportedly shooting at one another indiscriminately.
Sources alleged the incident was sparked by disagreements over proceeds from Evangelist Ebuka Obi and his Zion Ministry, which has interests tied to the disputed property. One source said the situation worsened when attempts to disarm an officer accused of shooting indiscriminately led to more fatalities before he was eventually subdued and allegedly shot.
The development has unsettled residents, especially as the Zion Ministry prepares to hold a four-day crusade in the area next week, raising concerns over security at the event.
While police authorities have denied involvement, the Department of State Services (DSS) maintained that the number of casualties was lower than reported. “We don’t talk on the phone, but the number of casualties is lower,” said DSS Director of Operations in Imo, Ikechi Ogbonna.
