Tinubu Orders Military Overhaul After Deadly Borno Attack
President Bola Tinubu has ordered a comprehensive overhaul of military operations across the country in response to the recent terrorist attack in Borno State that left dozens dead. The president directed the Armed Forces to review ongoing security strategies and deploy advanced military hardware, including drones and surveillance technology, to strengthen the fight against insurgent groups.
Vice President Kashim Shettima conveyed the president’s directive while expressing condolences to the people of Borno following Friday night’s attack in Darajamal, Bama Local Government Area. The assault, carried out by Boko Haram insurgents, claimed the lives of both civilians and soldiers.
In a message released through his spokesman, Stanley Nkwocha, the Vice President described the incident as a profound loss to the state and the nation. He commiserated with Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, who had visited the affected community on Saturday to console grieving families.
“The deaths have left the entire nation in collective grief, but we are confident that justice will be served for the bereaved families,” Shettima said, adding that the president had approved the acquisition of additional drones to bolster military surveillance.
He reaffirmed the government’s confidence in the Armed Forces’ capacity to overcome the security challenges facing the region, while also pointing to discussions around the possible establishment of state police. According to him, such units would be better positioned to understand local terrain and culture, enabling more effective grassroots security operations.
The Vice President assured that the Federal Government would continue to support Borno State and affected communities, offering prayers for the victims’ families and pledging sustained efforts to restore peace and stability.
