Grief in Anambra as Kidnapped Maryann Onwuchekwa Is Found Dead
The community of Amansea in Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State has been thrown into mourning following the tragic death of 30-year-old Maryann Oluchukwu Onwuchekwa, who was killed after being abducted by kidnappers.
Maryann was reportedly kidnapped alongside her sick father and sister-in-law while they were returning from a trip to purchase medication. According to social media accounts shared by family and community members, the abductors left her ailing father behind due to his poor health, but continued with Maryann and her sister-in-law.
Ransom was demanded by the kidnappers, who insisted that a woman should deliver the money. The mother of Maryann’s sister-in-law volunteered to take the ransom to the designated location, where she successfully secured her daughter’s release. However, Maryann was not released and was left behind with the kidnappers.
Upon her return, the woman reportedly offered no explanation about Maryann’s whereabouts, prompting alarm and eventual intervention by authorities. Despite efforts to trace Maryann and ensure her safe return, her body was tragically discovered by the roadside on March 5, 2025. She had been brutally stabbed and was found with knife wounds all over her body.
Maryann’s death has left her family and the entire Amansea community heartbroken, as questions continue to swirl around the events that led to her murder and the apparent silence surrounding her fate. Her burial has been scheduled for April 30, 2025, in her hometown, where loved ones will gather to pay their final respects.
Calls for justice have begun to emerge as the community grapples with the loss and seeks answers. Maryann Onwuchekwa is remembered as a kind and vibrant young woman whose life was cut short by senseless violence.
