Gov Fubara Reacts to Allegations by Former Rivers Head of Service
Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has strongly denied allegations made against him by former Head of Service (HoS), Dr. George Nwaeke, calling them false and politically motivated. The governor urged Nigerians to disregard the claims, which he described as an attempt to discredit his administration and disrupt the peace process in the state.
Nwaeke had alleged that Fubara conspired with militants to destroy oil pipelines in Rivers State amid the ongoing political crisis. He also claimed to have knowledge of Fubara’s supposed support for Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed’s alleged 2027 presidential bid, as well as secret meetings between the Rivers State governor and militant groups.
However, in a personally signed statement released early Saturday, Fubara dismissed Nwaeke’s claims as “laughable” and unfounded. He stated that Nwaeke had been coerced or paid to spread misinformation against him.
“The truth is that Dr. Nwaeke has been compromised, and whatever he is saying is only aimed at fulfilling his promise to those who may have paid or coerced him to lie against me,” Fubara stated. “I call on all well-meaning Nigerians and the good people of Rivers State to disregard everything said by Dr. Nwaeke, as they are mere desperate attempts to discredit me and my administration, and undermine the peace process initiated by Mr. President.”
Fubara also refuted the claim that he had been involved in discussions to support Bala Mohammed’s potential presidential ambitions. He noted that, as Head of Service, Nwaeke would not have been privy to any high-level political meetings. The governor emphasized that the only known interaction between Rivers and Bauchi State officials was during an official visit by Bala Mohammed in his capacity as Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum.
“The whole world knew when the Bauchi State Governor, as Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, visited Rivers State, and there was nothing secret about the visit,” Fubara clarified.
On the allegations of supporting attacks on oil pipelines and other national assets, Fubara categorically denied ever meeting with militants or engaging in any discussions that could destabilize the state. He reaffirmed his commitment to peace and stability, despite what he described as ongoing provocations.
“It is also ludicrous for Dr. Nwaeke to claim that he was aware of my meetings to encourage attacks on oil pipelines and other national assets in the state, as there was no time I held any meeting with militants or any criminal group to destabilize the state,” Fubara said. “It is on record that I have been at the forefront preaching peace in the state even in the face of obvious provocations.”
The allegations come amid heightened political tensions in Rivers State, where Fubara has faced opposition from within his own party. His statement signals a firm stance against attempts to undermine his government and disrupt governance in the oil-rich state.
Fubara reiterated his administration’s commitment to upholding stability and ensuring that peace prevails in Rivers, despite ongoing political maneuvering by certain factions.
