God Saved Me from Tinubu’s Disaster – El-Rufai
Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has said he feels fortunate not to be part of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, describing it as a government that continues to inflict pain on Nigerians while failing at basic governance.
Speaking in an interview with Arise TV on Monday, El-Rufai said every time he witnesses the government’s actions, he feels a sense of relief that he is not involved.
“Anytime I wake up and see Tinubu inflicting more pain on Nigerians and just bungling governance—the simplest things in governance that I knew when I was DG of the Bureau of Public Enterprises—whenever I see them, I thank God,” he said. “I think God saved me. I’m really lucky. God saved me from the embarrassment of explaining being part of this disaster.”
El-Rufai, who played a key role in Tinubu’s rise to power, now labels the administration as “evil” and “a tragedy,” vowing to work with opposition forces to remove Tinubu from office in 2027.
His remarks follow President Tinubu’s recent praise of El-Rufai’s successor, Uba Sani, for allegedly transforming Kaduna from what he called a “toxic” state under El-Rufai.
After falling out with the president and having his ministerial nomination blocked by the Senate—a move he blames on Tinubu—El-Rufai left the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Social Democratic Party (SDP). He had previously criticized Tinubu as a failure and admitted backing him for president despite controversies involving alleged drug trafficking and certificate forgery.
