Full List: NYSC Revokes Certificates of 101 University of Calabar Graduates
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has officially revoked the national service certificates of 101 graduates from the University of Calabar (UNICAL). The decision, announced by NYSC management, affects 99 individuals who were improperly mobilized for the national service during the 2021, 2022, and 2023 service years. Additionally, two individuals were found to have been unlawfully granted exemption certificates.
In a statement, the NYSC emphasized its commitment to upholding the integrity of the national service program by ensuring that only qualified Nigerian graduates, whether trained locally or abroad, are issued valid certificates. The statement also underscored the corps’ determination to prevent the recognition of graduates from unaccredited institutions.
The one-year national service is mandatory for Nigerian graduates who are 30 years old or younger at the time of completing their studies. Those over 30 are typically issued exemption certificates. NYSC certificates are essential for graduates seeking employment aligned with their educational qualifications.
Despite repeated attempts, NYSC spokesperson Eddy Megwa has not provided further details regarding the situation. Similarly, UNICAL spokesperson Effiong Bassey stated that he was unaware of the issue but promised to respond at a later date.
NYSC has urged employers and government agencies to verify the authenticity of NYSC certificates, including Certificates of National Service, Exemption, and Exclusion Letters, directly with the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters in Abuja.
This revocation serves as a reminder of the NYSC’s ongoing efforts to maintain the integrity of the national service program and ensure that only eligible graduates are recognized.
