Fubara’s Defection Endears Rivers People to APC – Party

The All Progressives Congress (APC) says the defection of Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has strengthened the party’s support across the state.

The party made the statement as its committees concluded delegate congresses and primaries ahead of the February 21 House of Assembly bye-elections in Ahoada East State Constituency II and Khana State Constituency II.

Shehu Dange, Chairman of the Congress and Primary Committee for Ahoada East State Constituency II, said Fubara’s entry into the APC has unified the party and inspired confidence among residents.

“As we moved across the constituency, the people expressed strong support for the party and its leadership. Governor Fubara’s leadership is bringing focus and direction, making the APC stronger in Rivers State,” Dange said.

Barrister Smart Iheanazor, Secretary of the committee, noted the enthusiasm of participants reflected the trust residents have in the governor. “The turnout was massive. People are optimistic about the future and supportive of President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election,” he said.

Ayoala Peter, Chairman of the Delegate Congress and Primary Committee for Khana State Constituency II, said the level of participation shows that the APC is well-positioned for success in the bye-elections and the 2027 general elections under Fubara’s leadership.

Ward congresses in both constituencies elected delegates to vote in the party primaries. The exercises were monitored by INEC officials, including Assistant Electoral Officer Okogbule Emilia, and security agencies such as the DSS and the Nigeria Police Force. Ahoada East conducted voting by voice, while Khana State used an open ballot system. Five delegates were elected from each ward to take part in the primaries.

The primaries will determine the APC candidates for the February 21 House of Assembly bye-elections in the two constituencies.
