“Fubara Asked for This Outcome” – APC Justifies Emergency Rule

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has thrown its full support behind President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, squarely blaming Governor Siminalayi Fubara for the political turmoil that prompted the intervention. In a statement released Tuesday, APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, accused Fubara of undermining democratic governance by dismantling the state’s legislative framework and operating without oversight.

Morka pointed to the demolition of the Rivers State House of Assembly and Fubara’s unilateral governance without a functioning legislature as key reasons the state became, in his words, “ungovernable.” He stated that Fubara’s actions, including spending state funds without legislative appropriation, stripped him of constitutional legitimacy and destabilized the balance of powers essential to democratic rule.

“There cannot be a governor without a legislature and the judiciary,” Morka noted, emphasizing that the absence of cooperation among the three arms of government left Rivers in a state of constitutional limbo. He added that the Supreme Court had effectively confirmed the collapse of governance in the state following the destruction of the legislature.

The APC maintained that President Tinubu’s declaration of emergency was a necessary and constitutionally grounded move aimed at restoring order, safeguarding lives, and reinstating proper governance in Rivers. The party described the intervention as a decisive act of leadership intended to prevent total chaos.

“The safety and well-being of the people is paramount at this time and must trump all political considerations,” Morka asserted, praising Tinubu for acting swiftly to avert a complete breakdown of law and order.

The statement concluded with a firm endorsement of the president’s decision, hailing it as an example of bold leadership in the face of growing instability.
