Frontline Anambra South Senatorial Aspirant, Amamgbo, Dumps Labour Party for ADC
In a major realignment ahead of the August 16 Anambra South Senatorial bye-election, prominent legal practitioner and senatorial hopeful, Barr. Donald Chidi Amamgbo, has officially resigned from the Labour Party (LP) and declared for the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
In his resignation letter dated July 4, Amamgbo thanked the Labour Party for the opportunity to engage politically under its platform but stated his intention to pursue his senatorial aspiration on the ADC banner, citing the need to align with a platform that reflects his values of transparency, fairness, and people-focused leadership.
“This decision was not made lightly,” Amamgbo said. “But I believe the ADC offers a more credible platform to advance the will of the people without political distractions or compromise.”
The U.S.-trained lawyer and founder of Amamgbo & Associates has long been seen as a people-driven aspirant with strong grassroots support. Known for his clean record, community empowerment efforts, and consistent advocacy for transparency in governance, Amamgbo said he was moved to join the race by the overwhelming call from constituents to offer a different kind of leadership.
“My loyalty has always been to the people, not to power blocs or political godfathers,” he stated. “This campaign is about service, not survival. And the people of Anambra South deserve sincere, smart, and effective representation.”
Political observers say Amamgbo’s defection to ADC signals a shake-up in the senatorial race, especially as party primaries begin in the coming weeks.
With his growing popularity among voters seeking a break from money politics and recycled names, Amamgbo’s entry into the ADC is expected to energize the opposition coalition and reshape the dynamics of the upcoming election.
