Fresh IED Explosion Kills Four, Injures 21 in Yobe State
An explosion suspected to have been caused by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) has killed at least four people and injured 21 others in Yobe State. The incident occurred on Friday along the Katarko-Goniri Road in Gujba Local Government Area, as victims were traveling to the popular Buniyadi market. According to eyewitnesses, the vehicle carrying the victims hit the explosive device buried along the road.
The bodies of the deceased have been taken home for burial, while the injured are receiving treatment at a specialist hospital and the Yobe State University Teaching Hospital in Damaturu. The blast took place in Gotala community, located on the fringes of Sambisa forest, an area known for frequent attacks by suspected Boko Haram insurgents.
Residents said that on Thursday, vigilante and military vehicles also ran over buried explosives along the same route, resulting in multiple casualties. The military has not yet released an official statement on the incident. Meanwhile, relatives of the victims have urged the Yobe State Government to urgently reconstruct the dilapidated road, citing the persistent threat posed by insurgents to both civilians and security forces in the area.
