Explosion Rocks Woro Community in Kwara, Multiple Casualties Feared
Residents of Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State were shaken on Monday morning following an explosion that reportedly killed several people.
Local accounts indicate that the blast occurred in the early hours of the day. A community source said the incident involved a vehicle striking an improvised explosive device (IED), resulting in multiple fatalities, though the exact number has not been confirmed.
According to the source, the device is believed to have been planted by members of Boko Haram. “An explosion occurred this morning. A car drove over an IED. Lives were lost, but the number is not yet clear,” the source stated.
Another resident, Aliyu Yahuza, confirmed that the incident took place, adding to growing concern among locals about persistent security risks in the area.
Authorities had not issued an official statement at the time of reporting, and attempts to obtain confirmation from the state police spokesperson were unsuccessful.
The explosion comes against the backdrop of ongoing insecurity in Woro, where armed attackers previously carried out a deadly raid that resulted in significant loss of life and mass abductions. Reports from earlier incidents indicate that hundreds of residents were taken during the attack, with families still awaiting updates on their whereabouts.
Negotiations linked to ransom demands have reportedly stalled, leaving many families without clarity on the fate of their relatives. Some residents have continued to express concern that prolonged captivity conditions may have worsened the situation for those abducted.
