Former President Obasanjo Allegedly Supported Peter Obi in 2023 Elections Due to Igbo Heritage, Claims Aare Ona Kakanfo

Chief Sunday Adekunle Majekodunmi, the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Egba-land, and Otun Ba’asegun of Egbaland, has disclosed that former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo’s biological father hails from the Igbo tribe, specifically from Onitsha, Anambra State.

Speaking on the occasion of his 90th birthday in an exclusive interview with Daily Independent, Majekodunmi shed light on Obasanjo’s family history, claiming that the former president’s lineage is rooted in an Igbo ancestry. He alleged that Obasanjo’s biological father, a police officer stationed in Lafenwa, impregnated his mother, but due to societal constraints of the time, the officer’s identity remained concealed.

Majekodunmi further asserted that Obasanjo’s known father adopted him later, owing to the prevailing social norms that discouraged intermarriage between Yoruba and Igbo ethnic groups. He emphasized the resemblance between Obasanjo and the former DPO of Lafenwa, suggesting a genetic connection.

Highlighting Obasanjo’s political inclinations, Majekodunmi claimed that the former president exhibited favoritism towards the Igbo community, citing his support for Peter Obi’s presidential campaign in Onitsha during the 2023 elections. He emphasized Obasanjo’s efforts in promoting Igbo interests, both historically and politically.

The retired colonel revealed intimate details of Obasanjo’s entry into the Nigerian Army, attributing it to the support and recommendation provided by the DPO of Lafenwa, a pivotal figure in his early life.
