Former PDP Governors’ Forum DG Dumps Party, Cites Collapse and Hijack

CID Maduabum, the immediate past director general of the Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum (PDP-GF) and a former two-time member of the House of Representatives, has formally announced his defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing the PDP as a party that has lost its way.

In a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja, Maduabum declared that his decision followed what he called “deep reflection, extensive consultations, and careful evaluation” of the party’s current state. He lamented that the PDP had been hijacked by “self-serving, unscrupulous elements” who prioritize personal ambition over party discipline, internal democracy, or national interest.

“The soul of the party I once served with pride has been hijacked,” Maduabum said. “The PDP today is a shadow of its former self.”

He added that the party had descended into chaos, internal betrayal, and what he described as a systematic destruction led by diverse forces with no regard for the founding principles of the PDP. According to him, reformers are now silenced, and the party has lost its moral compass.

“I can no longer in good conscience remain in a house that has been overrun by opportunists,” he stated.

Announcing his switch to the ADC, Maduabum said the party represents a credible alternative for Nigerians, and praised it as a platform built on integrity, accountability, and inclusive politics. He described the ADC as a beacon of hope and highlighted its growing coalition of progressive-minded leaders, including Peter Obi.

Maduabum emphasized that he was joining the ADC not merely as a defector, but as a reformer committed to fostering a new political culture in the country. He called on all well-meaning Nigerians to take a stand against what he called the ongoing decay in the nation’s political system.
