Azuka Okwuosa Clinches APC Ticket for Anambra South Senatorial By-Election

Hon. Azuka Okwuosa, a former governorship aspirant in Anambra State, has emerged as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the upcoming Anambra South senatorial by-election scheduled for August 16. Okwuosa secured the party’s ticket after defeating his closest rival, Mr. Obinna Uzor, in a primary election conducted by a seven-member committee from the APC National Secretariat, led by Chief Henry Ikoh.

The by-election is being held to fill the vacant seat left by the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who passed away in the United Kingdom a year ago. During the primaries, a total of 594 delegates from the seven local government areas in the zone cast their votes. Okwuosa received 470 votes, while Uzor garnered 57. Twenty-two votes were declared invalid.

Chief Ikoh, who announced the results, confirmed that the election process was peaceful and transparent, conducted in the presence of INEC officials, security agencies, the media, and party delegates. He officially declared Azuka Okwuosa the winner and APC candidate for the by-election.

In his post-election remarks, Okwuosa expressed gratitude for the party’s confidence in him, describing his nomination as a solemn responsibility. He paid tribute to the late Senator Ubah, acknowledging his contributions in the Senate and pledging to continue the work he left behind.

Born on November 3, 1959, in Jos, Plateau State, Okwuosa hails from Anambra State and has a long-standing political career. He previously served as chairman of the Nnewi North Local Government Council and as Anambra State Commissioner for Works and Transport. He was also the Secretary-General of the South-East Development Initiative from 2002 to 2010. Okwuosa has contested for governorship under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and had a brief stint with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) before joining the APC, which he described as a platform aligned with his vision for the state.
