Foreign Ownership Revealed in CAC Document of Company Linked to Ibadan Explosion, Death Toll Rises

In the aftermath of Tuesday’s tragic explosion in the Bodija area of Oyo State, Governor Seyi Makinde disclosed on Wednesday that the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) certificate of the implicated mining company displayed foreign names as owners.

On Wednesday night’s edition of Channels Television’s Politics Today program, Governor Makinde also confirmed an increase in the death toll, revealing that another victim succumbed to injuries at a local hospital.

Governor Makinde stated, “We’ve done a few fact-finding on the company involved, and yes, there are indeed some foreign names on the CAC documents of the company.” He emphasized the need for a thorough investigation into the identities of those responsible.

“We recovered one individual alive today (Wednesday) under the rubble. 60 of the 77 people hospitalized have been discharged,” the governor added, providing updates on the rescue efforts.

The explosion, which occurred in the ancient city of Ibadan on Tuesday evening, prompted panic as buildings collapsed due to a powerful blast. Preliminary investigations suggest that illegal miners stored explosives in a residential area, causing the devastating incident.

Governor Makinde reassured the public that the state government is committed to uncovering the truth and holding those accountable. He identified an individual of interest, stressing that the incident was linked to illegal mining rather than banditry or insurgency.

In response to the incident, the governor expressed intentions to seek presidential approval for miners to store explosives with the military. He plans to sign an executive order to enforce this measure in the coming days.

For those displaced by the explosion, the governor assured that temporary shelter had been provided in hotels in Bodija and the Agodi areas of the state capital.

As investigations continue, Governor Makinde urged the public to trust in the transparency of his administration and pledged to bring justice to those affected by the tragic event.
