Federal Character Commission Chairman Faces Intense Police Interrogation Over Alleged Certificate Fraud

Moheeba Farida Dankaka, the Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), has been subjected to a rigorous five-hour interrogation by the Nigerian Police at the Force headquarters in Abuja. This development stems from allegations of certificate forgery and the presentation of false information.

Dankaka faced questioning following a petition lodged in May 2023 by the civil society organization, Youth and Leadership Initiatives. The petition accused Dankaka of presenting false information to the presidency and the National Assembly to secure her chairmanship position in the commission.

The petition highlighted concerns about falsification of certificates, identity, and the presentation of false information on oath, prompting the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) in Garki, Abuja, to intervene.

In response to the petition, the police, through a letter dated January 8, 2024, and signed by DCP Tahir Usman, Deputy Commissioner of Police for Commissioner of Police (PSFU), FCID, invited Dankaka for questioning. This session extended for over five hours, and she was instructed to provide original copies of all her certificates on January 17, 2024.

A letter from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, stated, “I wish to inform you that the available records in the University revealed that the photocopy of the certificate attached to your letter didn’t emanate from this University.”

Despite multiple attempts to reach out to FCC Chairman Moheeba Farida Dankaka for comment, calls and messages have gone unanswered.

This development raises serious questions about the authenticity of Dankaka’s credentials and adds a layer of scrutiny to the leadership of the Federal Character Commission. Ongoing investigations will be closely monitored, and further updates will be provided.
