“Fayose, Bode George Are Gluttons, Atiku is PDP’s Best Bet for 2027” – Party Chieftain

A prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Segun Adewale, has lashed out at former Governor Ayodele Fayose and Chief Bode George, labelling them “gluttons” for opposing former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar’s 2027 presidential ambition.

Speaking in Lagos on Friday, Mr Adewale, a former PDP chairman in Lagos, dismissed calls for Mr Abubakar to step aside from politics, insisting that the former vice president remains the most credible option for the party in the next general election.

“Atiku is one of the politicians that I know that is satisfied with whatever he has. Most other politicians, like his critics, are gluttons,” Mr Adewale said. “It is unfortunate that the unrelenting opposition Atiku faces is from within the PDP, not even outside it.”

His comments come in response to recent statements by Mr George and Mr Fayose, who have urged Atiku not to contest in 2027. While Mr George accused Atiku of anti-party activities and demanded his resignation from the PDP, Mr Fayose threatened to work against his candidacy if he joins the race again.

But Mr Adewale defended Atiku’s record and character, describing him as “tested and tried” and a politician driven by public service, not personal gain. “He has been in power. He understands Nigerian politics. He knows our challenges compared to other politicians that just want to grab power to get wealth,” he said.

Adewale further argued that opposition to Atiku’s 2027 ambition within the PDP is being driven by selfish motives. “Anyone within the PDP saying Atiku should not contest in 2027 is working for the opposition and not for the party or the country,” he declared. “They are working for their personal pocket. Therefore, they should not be listened to.”

He concluded by asserting that no single opposition party, including the Labour Party, could defeat the ruling party on its own, positioning Atiku as the unifying figure PDP needs heading into the next election.
