Father, Son, Friend Die While Retrieving Phone from Toilet Pit
A tragic incident occurred in Yar Gwanda Village in Tsanyawa Local Government Area of Kano State, where three people, including a father and his son, lost their lives while attempting to retrieve a fallen phone from a toilet pit. The victims have been identified as Malam Danjuma, a 60-year-old man, his 35-year-old son, Ibrahim Danjuma, and another 35-year-old man, Aminu Gaye. A fourth victim, Abbas Alasan, aged 28, was rescued alive.
The incident happened on Sunday when Malam Danjuma attempted to retrieve his phone from a toilet pit but became trapped. His son, Ibrahim, rushed in to help but also got trapped. Aminu Gaye, another local, entered to assist but faced the same fate. Abbas Alasan, who was also attempting to help, was the only one rescued alive.
The Kano State Fire Service received an emergency call from Aminu Yar Gwanda at around 11:00 am on Sunday, April 21, 2024, alerting them about the incident. Fire Service personnel, led by their spokesperson Saminu Abdullahi, responded promptly to the scene, where they found the four individuals in distress. Despite their best efforts, the Fire Service could only rescue Alasan alive. The other three were found unconscious and rushed to Bichi Special Hospital, where they were later pronounced dead.
The bodies of the deceased were handed over to the Divisional Police Officer at Tsanyawa Police Division, who then took them to the hospital for medical attention and official confirmation of their passing. Alasan, the survivor, is receiving treatment and is expected to recover.
