Tragedy in Minna: Five Children Suffocate in Unused Car
Five children tragically suffocated to death after locking themselves inside an unused car for several hours in Minna, Niger State. The tragic event occurred on Sunday evening in the Alibishiri area along the Minna-Bida road.
According to police, the children were playing in a spacious compound adjacent to their homes when they decided to enter an abandoned Honda Civic vehicle. Sadly, the car had been idle for two years and was left with its windows rolled up. The children locked themselves inside around 11 a.m., and their lifeless bodies were not discovered until 4 p.m.
Parents of the children searched for them when they realized they were missing but did not check the unused car until it was too late. The victims include three siblings, who were the only children of their parents, and two others from separate families. The identities of the victims have been confirmed as 10-year-old Zahra, 7-year-old Aisha, 5-year-old Fati, and 7-year-old Isah. The identity of the fifth victim is yet to be verified.
The chairman of the Chanchaga local government area, Aminu Ladan, visited the scene and expressed his condolences to the bereaved families. He described the incident as a profound loss and urged parents and guardians to be more vigilant and cautious about the whereabouts of their children.
The local authorities are currently investigating the tragic incident, and community members have called for increased safety measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
