Explosion Rocks Action People’s Party Secretariat in Rivers State
In the early hours of Monday, a suspected dynamite explosion severely damaged the secretariat of the Action People’s Party (APP) located along the GRA axis of Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State. The blast, which occurred around 1 a.m., shattered windows, doors, and caused significant destruction within the building, according to reports from The Punch.
Although authorities have yet to officially confirm the incident, initial investigations suggest that unknown individuals may have thrown dynamite into the secretariat, triggering the explosion. The attack comes amid widespread speculation that Governor Siminalayi Fubara is considering a defection to the APP along with his supporters, following allegations that former governor Nyesom Wike has taken control of the state’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Witnesses observed extensive damage to the building’s ceiling and fittings, and several APP officials were seen discussing the incident at the scene. A party member, speaking on condition of anonymity, claimed the attack was politically motivated. “This is clearly politically motivated. The APP is growing rapidly in the state, and this attack is an attempt to intimidate us. We urge the police to investigate this matter and bring those responsible to justice,” he stated.
When contacted, Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, said the explosion had not yet been confirmed. “I don’t have information on the incident yet, but you can send me the details so I can follow up,”
