Ex-PDP Chairman Resigns, Joins ADC

A former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State, Barrister Silas Onu, has officially resigned from the party and announced his defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Onu, who was the PDP’s Senatorial candidate in the February 4, 2024 Ebonyi South bye-election, made the announcement in a resignation letter dated Wednesday, addressed to his ward chairman in Obiozara. A copy of the letter was obtained by SK Blog on Thursday.

In the letter, Onu expressed gratitude for the support he received during his time with the PDP, but cited internal interference by some governors as a key reason for his departure.

“It is with a heavy heart, yet for a more patriotic reason, that I resign my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with immediate effect,” he wrote.

Reflecting on his political journey within the PDP, Onu noted his past roles, including State Publicity Secretary and State Chairman. He also referenced his 2024 senatorial candidacy as a significant milestone.

Despite these contributions, Onu said the growing influence of certain PDP governors has made it impossible to continue pursuing his political ambitions within the party.

“Due to some irreconcilable differences, especially the role being played by a few sitting governors of the party, I am compelled to pursue my political aspirations from a different, but stable platform,” he stated.

With his defection to the ADC—recently adopted by a coalition of opposition leaders ahead of the 2027 general elections—Onu has called on his supporters to join him in the move.

“I pray that we can all journey into the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to continue forging a strong political movement for the overall good of our people,” he added.
