Ex-Convict Arrested for Robbery Days After Prison Release
The Edo State Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old ex-convict, John Agbontean, for armed robbery just two days after his release from Oko Prison, Benin City, on December 19, 2024. The arrest took place on December 22 at the Restoration Gospel Ministry, located at No. 11 Oviasuyi Street, Benin City, following a distress call.
Police spokesperson SP Moses Yamu disclosed that Agbontean was apprehended in possession of a firearm while attempting to rob the church’s end-of-year thanksgiving collection. He was reportedly acting alongside an accomplice, identified as Ola, who remains at large.
Agbontean confessed to the crime during police interrogation, as well as to his recent release from prison. Authorities are actively pursuing investigations to apprehend the fugitive accomplice.
