The move to establish a visa centre in Enugu was initiated following a pivotal visit by the UK High Commissioner to Nigeria, Dr. Richard Montgomery, to the Government House in Enugu earlier this year in June. During this visit, Governor Peter Mbah had expressed the need for such a facility to facilitate visa applications.
In an official statement, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), expressed the state government’s elation upon receiving news of the visa centre. Prof. Onyia highlighted that this development would not only simplify visa applications for Enugu residents but also promote economic partnerships and cultural exchanges between Enugu State and the United Kingdom.
“The Enugu State Government therefore looks forward to a strong, mutually beneficial relationship with the UK, as the visa centre would help cement the relationship,” the statement emphasized.
Furthermore, the Enugu State government has urged people, particularly those residing in the South-East region, to take advantage of this new opportunity to submit their visa applications within the state. They also reassured residents and visitors of improved security measures to ensure their safety while conducting business in the state.
