Enugu Senator Dumps LP, Set to Join APC
Enugu East Senator, Kelvin Chukwu, has left the Labour Party to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Chukwu, who represents Enugu East Senatorial District and hails from Amuri Community in Nkanu West, made the announcement during a town hall meeting at his village market square on Wednesday, where he updated constituents on his legislative achievements.
The senator cited ongoing internal crises within the Labour Party, which have caused divisions and affected its members, as the main reason for his departure. He also criticized the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing it as currently facing significant challenges. Chukwu said he plans to formally declare his membership in the APC on the floor of the Senate when lawmakers resume plenary.
The town hall meeting was attended by the immediate-past state APC chairman, Dr. Ben Nwoye, local traditional rulers, and other dignitaries. Chukwu thanked his constituents for their continued support and pledged to remain committed to serving their interests. Nwoye welcomed the senator’s defection, calling it a smart political move that would benefit both Chukwu and his constituents.
