Enugu Government Announces Controlled Explosion to Repair Failed Bridge
The Enugu State Government has issued a public notice regarding a controlled explosion set to take place on Monday, November 27, as part of its ongoing efforts to address the structural issues affecting a bridge along the Enugu-Port Harcourt expressway.
In a joint statement by Aka Eze Aka, Commissioner for Information and Communication, and Gerald Otiji, Commissioner for Works, residents were informed that the controlled explosion is a crucial step in the government’s plan to repair the failed bridge.
Scheduled to commence at 10 am, the charging process will be led by the anti-bomb unit of the police, the zonal mines officer, and the explosive unit of the Department of State Services (DSS). The actual blasting is set to occur at 5 pm on the same day.
The government emphasized the collaborative effort of multiple agencies involved in the operation, including the police’s explosive ordinance disposal (EOD) unit, the zonal mines officer, and DSS personnel responsible for the explosive unit.
Residents in the vicinity of the failed bridge were urged to exercise necessary caution during the operation and to avoid unnecessary panic. The official statement from the Ministry of Information and Communication, in conjunction with the Ministry of Works, aimed to assure the public that the announced explosion is a strategic measure toward restoring the integrity of the bridge.
The government’s announcement concluded with a reminder that the charging process would commence at 10 am on Monday, followed by the controlled blasting at 5 pm on November 27, 2023.
